Statement of Practical Treatment
It is recommended that the user wear gloves and eye protection when applying MinnFinn. Avoid contact with skin and if exposed rinse thoroughly with water and apply NeuFinn. In case of contact with eyes, flush with large amounts of water for at least fifteen (15) minutes. For eyes, get prompt medical attention. If swallowed, drink large amounts of ate immediately to dilute. Do not attempt to induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately. For chemical emergency, spill, leak, fire, exposure and accident, call Chemtrec 1-800-424-9300. Outside the USA and District of Columbia call 7013-527-3887.

It is recommended that the user wear gloves and eye protection when applying MinnFinn.

Make sure you have an accurate pond volume to avoid over dose and under dose Know YOUR GALLONAGE.

Increase aeration to tank/pond to maximize oxygen levels and to ensure proper mixing of treatment.

When treating Flukes and Costla leave filter online for the first treatment. When treating other diseases placing filter on bypass is optional. If left online expect small impact on nitrification for 2 to 3 days. Bypass filter for further treatments.

Dilute the required quantity of MinnFinn in a 3/4 full 5 gallon bucket(s) using water from the pond to be treated or tap water for up to 250 mL (8.45 US fluid ounces) of MinnFinn. Use a separate bucket for each 250 mL (8.45 US fluid ounces) of MinnFinn to be applied.

Spread the mixture around the entire edge of the pond or in the upwelling from an air diffuser to ensure good mixing which will reduce the potential of an area of high concentration fish may pass through.

Let MinnFinn treatment run for one (1) hour.

Normal treatment behavior will be lethargy, mild to moderate increase in respiration, and possible mild agitation.

See required NeuFinn directions (see below) for preparation prior to the end of the treatment.

If fish appear severely distressed indicated by rolling over and appear to be falling asleep, apply NeuFinn immediately anytime during the treatment.

Do not use with any other treatment.
APPLICATION OF NEUFINN REQUIRED

While the MinnFinn treatment is underway, prepare the NeuFinn neutralizer for application.

In the same 5 gallon bucket(s) used to distribute the MinnFinn treatment, mix the required amount of NeuFinn neutralizer in a 3/4’s full bucket with either pond or tap water. Use a separate bucket for each 1/4 bag of NeuFinn applied.

After the one (1) hour MinnFinn treatment is complete, apply the dissolved NeuFinn to the pond in the same manner as you did the MinnFinn around the perimeter of the pond or over an air diffuser.

Return water flow to the pond and/or filter.

Using in Cold Water Temperatures
MinnFinn will work at any temperature so for those of you with health issues once the ice is gone, MinnFinn may be an excellent treatment of choice. Remember however that in cold water fish may be more stressed than normal. The tolerable range of carp is 33ºF to 95ºF with the optimum range between 55ºF to 80ºF. Once we move from the optimal range into tolerable temperatures the fish become more stressed and more vulnerable to disease. They can also become more easily impacted with treatments. The colder it gets the more vulnerable the fish. MinnFinn when applied properly is relatively gentle on the fish with proper mixing and aeration. Many treatments have been done in the 40ºF’s with the fish responding well. Any time you do a treatment you are doing a risk/benefit analysis. You need to ask yourself is the treatment going to do less damage than not doing anything. Obviously we want the treatment to not cause any further problem and make the fish healthy. This may not always be the outcome depending on the level of disease in the fish, the level of stress and the overall state of the fish. In order to save the fish that are not to far gone you may lose some fish if the pond is in a bad state. It is always good to look at your fish and let them tell you what they need.

I am the developer of MinnFinn
Although MinnFinn is an oxidizer as is PP, they are very different. Not all oxidizers are the same. MinnFinn does not cause the same gill damage as PP. I did histopathology on fish treated with both andthere is a tremendous difference in what occurs.
The neutralizer is a safety factor as well as a means of terminating the treatment at a prescribed point (one hour). It allows a rapid termination with no need for water changes after. Unlike other treatments that last days, have limited efficacy and require massive water changes.ere is a tremendous difference in what occurs.
We have to remember that when we treat, the effectiveness and safety of the treatment is the difference between the level that will kill the pathogen and the level that kills the fish. The bigger the gap the better the treatment. Also remember that there is always going to be some impact on the fish. There is no treatment that will not impact the fish in some way. If we can find a treatment that has little impact on the fish and a lot on a broad range of pathogens then we have a very valuable tool in the koi health toolbox.
The product MinnFinn (Minntech Corp.) may be a valuable treatment compound for
external parasites and bacteria in aquarium fish.
Hydrogen peroxide is an effective agent
and has been used a great deal in the aquaculture industry.
The combination of peracetic
acid with hydrogen peroxide in MinnFinn has been well demonstrated as a disinfectant
against virus and bacteria.
In review of its toxicity to a few fish species, it appeared that
freshwater fish are tolerant of the compound and it thus may be a good treatment tool for
the reduction or elimination of ecto-parasites and bacteria in tropical fish.
With the
efficacy against viruses, it may also inhibit the spread of virus in an infected population
Some preliminary research investigating the effectiveness of MinnFinn on a pathogenic
Vibrio sp.bacteria invitro showed MinnFinn to be efficient at killing the organism
suspended in sea water at or below doses required with hydrogen peroxide. Further
investigation is warranted, in both aquaculture and home aquarium systems.
The following provides the methods for the testing of efficacy of MinnFinn at the
determined safe levels from the experiment executed in Phase I on Koi.
[The fish tested were juvenile Koi with an average size of ~8 grams.]
experiment both the 25 ppm and 10 ppm doses had little impact on the fish after three
treatments with each treatment separated by one day.

In the treatment of a
bacterial infection however, it may best be done in conjunction with an injection type
antibiotic such as Oxytetracycline.
Pathology
The gills from the pre-treatment fish demonstrated extreme secondary lamellar fusion.
Samples were collected from six fish and all showed severe fusion. A presentation like
this is often due to bacterial and parasitic infections. In this case a bacterial infection is
most probable as no parasites were seen in whole mounts.
